Prairie Spirit Wildlife Sanctuary, owned by John Barnes and Kel Mattice, is located in the rolling topography just south of Verona. Purchased in 1972 this 200 acre tallgrass and oak/hickory woodland restoration as evolved through dairy/cattle farming, row crops, and pastureland to become a large, diverse grassland system that supports a diversity of native plants and wildlife .
