The Southern Driftless Grassland Prescribed Burn Portal is a free tool to help neighbors connect with other landowners and community members who are interested in prescribed fire.

Important:

The Driftless Area Land Conservancy (DALC) and all Southern Driftless Grassland partners and affiliates (SDG) do not organize, supervise, or conduct prescribed burns.

Any burns planned or carried out as a result of connections made through this portal are private, independent activities between the individuals involved.

By using this portal, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

1. Independent Responsibility

• You are solely responsible for any prescribed burn you plan, host, or participate in.

• SDG is not a party to these activities and has no role in approving,

  coordinating, or overseeing them.

2. Risk Awareness

• Prescribed fire is an inherently dangerous activity that carries risks of property damage, injury, or death.

• You accept all risks involved with participating in or assisting with a prescribed burn.

3. Legal Compliance

• You are responsible for ensuring that any prescribed burn complies with all local, state, and federal laws, permits, and safety requirements.

4. Release of Liability

• By using this portal, you release and agree to hold harmless DALC, its staff, board, partners, and volunteers and all SDG partners and affiliates and their staff, board, partners, and volunteers from any and all claims, damages, or liabilities that may arise from:

  • Using this portal, or

  • Any prescribed burn planned or carried out by individuals

    connected through it.

5. No Insurance Coverage

• SDG does not provide insurance for prescribed burns. You are responsible for securing any necessary insurance coverage.
