About the event
The 2026 Burn Boss Academy will be offered Sept 27 – Oct 2 at UW-Stevens Point’s Treehaven facility.
This is an all-day event and the schedule will be released later this year.
The Academy is designed for professionals with squad boss experience seeking to gain valuable high-level skills for a career in fire leadership, with a special emphasis on Wisconsin landscapes and fire culture. The course will consist of lecture content and hands-on classroom exercises. There will be pre-work assigned consisting of reading, viewing videos, and completing written exercises. The curriculum will NOT include live fire exercises. (Live fire experience for burn boss trainees is addressed through separate mentorship experiences.)
Individuals with squad boss experience who intend to become certified under the Wisconsin Certified Burn Boss Program, or who seek to advance their skills in fire leadership. This training is intended primarily for those who plan to burn multiple units at multiple locations in Wisconsin each year. (WPFC provides other training opportunities for other audiences.)
Spots will be limited to ensure an ideal student-to-instructor ratio. Application deadline: July 3rd, 2026.
