Come early and enjoy the serenity of a sunrise over a vast expanse of planted prairie. Listen to the music of grassland birds greeting the day. Bloomfield Prairie is a 400+ acre little known birder’s paradise owned by Iowa County, just west of Dodgeville.
Thanks to the management and heterogeneity of the plantings, the area provides summer breeding grounds for a variety of grassland birds. Grassland birds that utilize the prairie include Upland Sandpipers, Bobolinks, Eastern Meadowlarks, Dickcissels, Henslow's Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow and many more. Get tips and assistance identifying birds by song and visual identification from bird experts. After a quiet hour greeting the morning sun and song, discussions on grassland birds and their habitat needs will complete the experience.
Your leaders will be Cindy Becker of Driftless Area Land Conservancy, Rocco Delmedico of Pheasants Forever, & Ashly Steinke of the National Audubon Society
Registration and fees handled through Natural Resource Foundation of Wisconsin.
