Workshop I Introduction to Prescribed Fire Two-Day Training I Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council
This entry-level training course empowers Wisconsinites to make informed decisions about how to use prescribed fire on their own lands while building all the necessary skills to operate as a member of a volunteer burn crew.

About the event
Who: All are welcome! This course is designed for landowners, students, and volunteers seeking introductory prescribed fire training. This program will empower them to begin volunteering on burn crews and/or make important land management decisions.
When: Training will occur on May 16th and 17th from 8am to 5pm, with rain dates of May 23 and 24. Day 1 focuses on classroom instruction and equipment demonstrations, while Day 2 focuses primarily on live fire exercises. Training dates and schedule are subject to change according to weather.
We will be hosting a cookout social on Saturday, May 16th after the training, no additional sign-up required.
Where: Private property in Dallas, WI (trainees will be given the address after registration). Onsite primitive camping is available at no additional cost (campers are responsible for their own gear). Hotels are located within a 20-minute drive from the site in Barron and Chetek, WI.
What to Bring: Trainees must bring a water bottle, a bag lunch, and fire-appropriate clothing including leather boots (at least 6″ tall), leather gloves, and long-sleeved pants and shirts made with all-natural fibers such as cotton (no synthetic fibers such as polyester or nylon). Trainees must also be in good health and willing to sign a liability waiver after registration. Personal Protective Equipment, fire tools, coffee, and snacks will be provided.
Price: $175 for nonmembers. WPFC members receive discounted registration when logged in to their membership account. Contact us if you are interested in this training but the price of registration is a barrier.
*Note: significant further experience is necessary before participants are prepared to conduct burns on their own.
