Workshop I Burn Unit Break Preparation and Potluck I Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council, Pheasants Forever, and SDG

Join us for a day of learning how to prepare your burn unit breaks! We will go over different techniques you can use to prep them, equipment needed, and weather permitting, we will practice burning in breaks ourselves. In between all the work, we will have a community potluck.

Time & Location

Nov 08, 2025, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Sauk City, S11280 Fox Rd, Sauk City, WI 53583, USA

About the event

This six hour training will be split into three parts:

9:00 am-11:30 am: We will walk the breaks the landowner has prepared in her grassland and woodland and discuss how they were prepared, why they were prepared that way, and the equipment that was used.

11:30 am-12:30 pm: We will host a community potluck. Feel free to bring any fire related questions you would like to talk about.

1:00 pm- 3:00 pm: We will practice burning in a break in the woodland portion of the unit (weather permitting).

We encourage you to attend this event even if you can only make it to one portion of the class. Let us know when you sign up which part(s) you plan to attend. If you plan to attend the potluck, a food sign-up sheet will be sent closer to the event date. We will provide the main course.

There will be some steep terrain when we are walking in the wooded unit, please bring comfortable hiking shoes, and natural fiber clothing such as cotton (no synthetics) if you plan to practice burning in a break with us. We hope to see you there!
